Located southeast of Springfield, this is the largest municipally owned lake in Illinois. The 4,235-acre lake provides visitors with eight public parks, the Henson Robinson Zoo, and the Lincoln Memorial Garden. Lake Springfield offers boating, fishing, picnicking, and swimming.

Boating

Boats allowed on Lake Springfield include canoes, motorboats, pontoons, rowboats and sailboats. Boats with mast heights above 35 feet are allowed only on the central basin of the lake. All boats must be licensed. For more information on boating regulations, call 217-757-8600.

 

Fishing

About 15 sport fish species can be caught in Lake Springfield, including Channel Catfish, White Crappie, Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Flathead Catfish, Carp, Striped Bass and Tiger Muskie. Public fishing spots are located throughout the lake area. Fishing licenses are required.

 

Lake Springfield Marina

Full service marina with slip rental by day, week, month and season with certified mechanics on duty. Enjoy cruising or fishing on beautiful Lake Springfield on your rental pontoon boat, personal watercraft or canoe, kayak or paddle boat. Have a family or company outing on our 38’ Party Barge (seats 25-30). A spectacular fireworks display (Friday before July 4th). Parks

Eight parks with 32 picnic areas and eight softball diamonds. East Forest Park provides recreational equipment for people with disabilities. Parks include: Bridgeview, Center, East and West Cotton Hill, East and West Forest, Lake Park and the Wildlife Sanctuary. Park picnic areas, shelters and softball diamonds are available for events.
